Privacy Policy

IceCast ("IceCast", "we", "us") is a mobile app that shows ice conditions for Colorado lakes, and the website icecast.app. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
What We Collect
When you use the app without an account (guest)
- A random guest ID created by Firebase so the app can work and save your reports.
- Your favorite lakes and app preferences, stored only on your phone.
When you create an account or sign in (Google, Apple, or email)
- Your email address, and the name and profile photo your sign-in provider shares.
- The username you choose (shown publicly on leaderboards and your reports).
- Your report count, rank, and leaderboard standing.
When you submit an ice report
- The lake, ice thickness, condition (Safe/Caution/Unsafe/Unknown), the area of the lake you choose (for example "North Shore"), any notes you write, the time, and your username and rank at the time.
- We do not collect your GPS position with a report.
Location (only if you allow it)
Your approximate location is used on your phone to show current weather. It is sent to the U.S. National Weather Service (weather.gov) to get the forecast for that spot. We do not store your location.
When you contact us
- Issue reports: what you write, the lake you pick, your account email (if signed in), your phone type, and app version.
- Verified reporter requests: your name, city, reason, social media link, and your account email.
Purchases
Subscriptions are handled by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We never see your payment card. We receive whether your subscription is active.
Website (icecast.app)
- If you join our email list: your email address and state, stored in Mailchimp.
- If you accept cookies: Google Analytics measures site visits. Declining turns it off.
How We Use It
- To run the app: show lakes, save and display reports, ranks, and leaderboards.
- To review reports and verification requests before they're shown publicly.
- To fix problems you report and to prevent spam and abuse.
- To send you emails you signed up for (website list only).
We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
What's Public
- Your username, rank, and leaderboard position.
- Your approved ice reports (lake, thickness, condition, area, notes, time, username, rank).
- Your email address is never shown publicly.
Who We Share It With (Service Providers)
- Google Firebase — sign-in and database (stores your account and reports).
- Google Sign-In / Sign in with Apple — if you choose them to sign in.
- Google Maps — displays the map.
- U.S. National Weather Service — receives your approximate location to return weather.
- Apple and Google — process subscription payments.
- Mailchimp — website email list. Google Analytics — website visits, only with consent.
We may also share information if required by law.
Keeping and Deleting Your Data
- We keep your account and reports until you delete them.
- Delete in the app: Settings → Delete Account. This permanently deletes your account, reports, username, rank, leaderboard entries, and requests from our servers, and clears the app on your phone.
- Delete without the app: visit icecast.app/delete-account or email hello@icecast.app. We'll delete your data within 30 days.
- Website email list: unsubscribe with the link in any email.
Security
Data is stored with Google Firebase and protected by access rules. No system is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information.
Children
IceCast is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your information. Contact us at hello@icecast.app.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the effective date and, for major changes, notify you in the app.
