Ice data comes from several sources working in parallel: on-the-ice checks from the IceCast team, local marinas and tackle shops, and publicly posted park ice updates — plus verified reports from approved reporters and community reports from everyday users, which the IceCast team reviews before they go live. Our 50 major lakes get the most frequent coverage; the 200+ additional water bodies use the same sources and update as new reports come in. Every report shows a timestamp and the reporter's rank, so you can judge freshness and credibility for yourself.

Verified reports come from reporters who applied for verification in the app and were personally approved by the IceCast team. Community reports can be submitted by any IceCast user, and the IceCast team reviews them before they go live. Both show the reporter's rank and a timestamp, and both feed into every lake's condition status.

All lakes combine on-the-ice checks — from the IceCast team, local marinas and tackle shops, and public park postings — with verified reports from approved reporters and reviewed community reports. Our 50 major lakes are checked most frequently, so their data stays freshest; the 200+ additional water bodies update as new reports come in. Every report includes a timestamp and the reporter's rank — higher-ranked reporters have a longer track record of accurate submissions. Ice conditions change constantly, so always check how recent a report is and use your own judgment when you arrive.

Submit ice reports to earn XP — your level depends on how many reports you submit. You'll progress through 16 ranks — from Private all the way up to General — across enlisted and officer tiers. Higher ranks unlock profile badges and leaderboard recognition.

Colorado only at launch. We're building the data network to cover one state well before expanding. If you're outside Colorado, join the waitlist anyway — we track interest by region to plan future states.

Your ice reports are shared with the community (your display name and rank are shown, not personal info). We use aggregate data to improve safety information. We never sell your data. You can delete your account and all associated reports at any time from the app settings.
